The defending League of Legends world champions will have the opportunity to defend their crown as SK Telecom T1 defeated the ROX Tigers 3-2 in a series that lived up to the hype at Madison Square Garden.

They will square off against Samsung Galaxy, who swept European club H2k-Gaming, in the finals on Oct. 29 in Los Angeles.

The gruelling five-game matchup between the two South Korean squads was a repeat of the 2015 final and the result was closer but the same.

Despite being the No. 1-ranked team in the world, ROX had lost all four matchups against SKT in the LCK’s summer season.

The opener was an even fight back and fourth for more than 40 minutes as the teams battled for every inch of the rift. Just before the 43-minute mark of the match, a team fight broke out moments after Bae "bengi" Seong-ung secured the Drake. As the 10 players engaged, SKT mid laner Lee "Faker" Sang-hyeok nailed a shockwave that took out two ROX players en route to the win.

Game 2 was defined by a stunning arrow from Kim "PraY" Jong-in that was the difference maker in evening the series for ROX. As the Tigers pushed into the SKT base, PraY shot an Enchanted Crystal Arrow toward the bot lane and continued to attack the minions and nexus towers in the enemy base. Down in the bot lane, Lee “Duke” Ho-seong was in the process of teleporting back to base before the arrow foiled his attempt. The hit allowed ROX to continue their push and even the series at 1-1.

After trading the next two games in highly contentious affairs, the series came down to a fifth and final game.

The teams traded shots for most of the early game before SKT began to gain a slight edge that would continue to grow. The defending champs secured four drakes and prove too much for their South Korean counterparts in a series-clinching win.

In the other semifinal, H2k was the aggressor in each of the first two contests and jumped out to early leads they eventually squandered. The Europeans failed to capitalize on momentum and fell behind in gold in the mid game both times, allowing SSG to snowball to victory.

It was all SSG in Game 3 and the series was over after a brief 26-minute contest.
