LONDON - Tottenham beat Swansea 3-2 in a Premier League game that was delayed on Wednesday after the Welsh club's striker Bafetimbi Gomis collapsed.

The French forward soon regained consciousness and was later said to be in a stable condition.

He collapsed as play was about to restart following Nacer Chadli's opener for Tottenham in the seventh minute. Paramedics and medical staff raced onto the field to tend to the player.

The ground where Bolton midfielder Fabrice Muamba suffered a cardiac arrest three years ago fell silent. But Swansea manager Garry Monk later told the BBC: "Coming off the pitch he was talking."

"With his history and everything like that it's quite normal," Monk added, in reference to Gomis having also lost consciousness on more than one occasion before his move to the Premier League.

Ki Sung-yueng levelled for Swansea before second-half strikes from Ryan Mason and Andros Townsend secured the win for Tottenham. Gylfi Sigurdsson reduced the deficit for the visitors late on.

Having exited the Europa League and lost the League Cup final to Chelsea in the past week, this was a vital win for Mauricio Pochettino's seventh-placed side.

Chadli's fine, cushioned volley got Spurs off to the best possible start.

That strike was quickly forgotten, though, when Gomis collapsed, an incident which saw him leave the field on a stretcher after four minutes of treatment.

It was a worrying moment that Swansea recovered well from, with Ki striking home from an acute angle soon after Sigurdsson sent a free kick off the post in the 19th minute.

However, there was not to be a third straight Premier League win for Swansea, with Tottenham academy graduates Mason and Townsend striking for Spurs in what was for the most part a comfortable second half.

Ashley Williams' tackle on Eriksen only put the ball into Mason's path, with the 23-year-old midfielder lashing home his first league goal.

Eriksen sliced an effort before Townsend broke at speed and cut onto his right foot, firing home when many expected him to square for Harry Kane.

Tottenham substitute Roberto Soldado glanced a header just wide — a missed opportunity which allowed Sigurdsson to reduce the deficit, volleying home Jefferson Montero's cross.

Swansea pushed for an equalizer but goalkeeper Hugo Lloris tipped Federico Fernandez's header wide in stoppage time.
