TORONTO - Toronto police are asking for public help to recover a Stanley Cup ring that was stolen during a break-and-enter last month.

Police say the 1947-1948 Toronto Maple Leafs championship ring belongs to former Leafs defenceman Philip Samis and is a family heirloom.

The ring was among a quantity of jewelry and property taken from a home in north-end Toronto on March 5.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.

Samis, who is from Edmonton, played just five games for the Leafs in the 1947-48 playoffs and a pair of regular season games in 1949-50.
