Devin Booker’s 70-point explosion last night against the Boston Celtics marked the highest point total in an NBA regular season game in over 10 years. Only five players have ever scored 70 points or more, none nearly as young as Booker (20-years-old, 145 days). Inspired by Booker’s historic night, we take a look back at some of the best individual scoring efforts from recent years.

Dec. 5, 2016 – Klay Thompson: 60 points, 21-33 field goals, 8-14 three-pointers

Thompson owns the NBA’s most recent 60-point effort before Booker. What makes his outing so remarkable is that he played just 29 minutes. The Golden State Warriors beat the Indiana Pacers 142-106, eliminating much of a need for Thompson in the second half, sitting out the entire fourth quarter. Thompson’s 21 made field goals also came mostly on spot-up shots. He had 46 touches, handling the ball for a total of just 90 seconds, or only about 1.5 seconds per touch.

April 13, 2016 – Kobe Bryant: 60 points, 22-50 field goals, 6-21 three-pointers

There’s no denying that Bryant ended his career with a bang in his last game against the Utah Jazz after a disappointing season. Despite making one of the louder exits to a career in NBA history, Bryant’s efficiency on that night is a storyline in itself. Bryant’s 50 shots attempted was the highest total in 33 years, attempting 15 more shots than the rest of his teammates combined. His 44 per cent field goal percentage was below his career average of 44.7 and his 28.6 three-point percentage ranks way below his career 32.9.

Jan. 25, 2014 – Terrence Ross: 51 points, 16-29 field goals, 10-17 three-pointers

Coming into this game averaging just 9.3 points per game on the season, Ross came out of nowhere against the Los Angeles Clippers to tie the Raptors’ franchise record of 51 points set by Vince Carter. This raised his season average almost a full point to 10.2. In fact, Ross was on the free throw line at the end of the game with 50 points on the night. After he connected on the first to tie the franchise record, Ross missed the second.

Jan. 24, 2014 – Carmelo Anthony: 62 points, 23-35 field goals, 6-11 three-pointers

With reports indicating that Carmelo Anthony’s time as a New York Knick could come to a close in a potential trade this coming summer,  Jan. 24 will go down as a memorable game. Playing in front of a home crowd at Madison Square Garden, Anthony scored a franchise record 62 points, also a career high. Nearing the end of the first half, Anthony collected a defensive rebound and dribbled to half court. Rising up off his left foot, he nailed a buzzer beater to close out a 37-point half. The Knicks would go on to win 125-96 over the Charlotte Bobcats.
