The NHL's Feb. 29 Trade Deadline is approaching and teams are making decisions on whether to buy or sell and decide which players can make the biggest difference and hold the greatest value. Check out today's trade rumours and speculation from around the NHL beat.

Time for a shakeup

Despite their improved play under head coach Todd McLellan and GM Peter Chiarelli this season, the Edmonton Oilers once again find themselves at the bottom of the standings heading into the Trade Deadline.

Moral victories only go so far, writes Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal, and the Oilers need to make some changes to their current roster. Matheson said the team needs a defenceman or two and a different makeup of top six forwards.

With that in mind, Matheson believes Connor McDavid, and maybe Leon Draisaitl and Darnell Nurse, are the only untouchables on Edmonton's roster and the likes of Jordan Eberle, Taylor Hall, and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins could be traded.

With Shawn Matthias and now Roman Polak traded away, there is no doubt the Toronto Maple Leafs are in the midst of a firesale. With very few untouchable roster players - names like Morgan Rielly, Jake Gardiner, James van Riemdsyk and Leo Komarov - Steve Simmons of the Toronto Sun talked to four hockey insiders to guage the value of other Leafs players expected to be moved.

Polak garnered the most interest, with Simmons predicting he would be traded for a second round pick and a decent prospect. Close, Polak was traded to the San Jose Sharks alongside Nick Spaling for two second rounders and Raffi Torres.

Expected price tags on other Leafs: A second rounder for Tyler Bozak, third rounders for Matt Hunwick, Peter Holland and Daniel Winnik, a third or fourth rounder for PA Parenteau, and a fourth rounder for James Reimer. Nazem Kadri's value was hard to guage because it's not certain he'll be available.

Open for business

With the Calgary Flames more than 10 points out of a playoff position with a week to go before the Trade Deadline, Wes Gilbertson of the Calgary Sun looks at five questions facing the team the next week.

Gilbertson said soon-to-be unrestricted free agents Jiri Hudler, Kris Russell, and David Jones are the most likely to be moved out ahead of the Trade Deadline. Gilbertson also notes that the team may not be in full "seller" mode and could look to upgrade at goalie over the next week.
