During the NFL regular season the TSN 4-Downs ‘Hail Mary Start of the Week’ will be based around off-the-radar players with upside in their weekend matchup. The player must be owned in less than 50% of ESPN fantasy leagues, making them more likely to be available on your league’s waiver wire.

Week 1 of the NFL season is in the books and with it came a batch of surprises. Over and under achieving players plus injuries have fantasy owners everywhere second guessing their draft choices.

That awful phrase ‘’it’s still early’’ is of course true, but it doesn’t help if you lost your first head-to-head match. I bet trade offers are swirling around your league at a rate faster than an A.J. Green catch and run.

Whether you won or lost your opening week, this is not the time to make a major roster move. Don’t panic and take a deep breath. Your friends at ‘’TSN 4-Downs’’ are here to help.

The key to being crowned champion more often than not comes from roster depth. The top stars usually produce, but how you tweak the bottom of your weekly lineup separates the stud fantasy managers from the wannabes.

These are a couple of ‘Hail Mary’ gems to grab and start this Sunday.

Wide Receiver: Tyrell Williams - San Diego Chargers

Owned in under 5% of ESPN fantasy leagues (as of Wednesday), if Tyrell Williams isn’t on your roster click that ‘add’ button as fast as you can.

San Diego’s star playmaker Keenan Allen is lost for the season with a torn ACL. This leaves a vacuum in the Chargers pass-heavy offense and Williams is the perfect replacement.

This second-year pro possess elite size at 6’4’’, 204lbs with a good motor and reliable hands. Williams ran a 4.43 sprint time in the 40-yard dash leading into the 2015 NFL entry draft where he went undrafted. He’s actually two inches taller than Allen and can dominate smaller defenders.

This is a career altering opportunity for Williams similar to how Allen rose to glory after Malcom Floyd suffered a neck injury in 2013.

The Western Oregon alum has a juicy Week 2 meeting to prove himself against a sloppy Jaguars’ secondary that’s given up the seventh most fantasy points to wide receivers.

Wide Receiver: Mike Wallace - Baltimore Ravens

Oh how the mighty have fallen. Once a perennial fantasy darling, Mike Wallace has been inconsistent since 2013. Now on his third team since leaving the Steelers in 2012, it looks like at age 30 he’s found the perfect fit in Baltimore.

Saddled with the inconsistent quarterback play of Ryan Tannehill in Miami and not fitting in as a Viking, Wallace is back in the AFC North with another big armed QB.

The eight-year veteran’s training camp chemistry with Joe Flacco carried over into last Sunday’s NFL opener. Against Buffalo he delivered 19.20 points in PPR formats, catching three passes on six targets for 91-yards and a touchdown.

This New Orleans native can still turn on the jets and should thrive this weekend versus the Swiss cheese secondary of Cleveland. The Browns have allowed the eighth most fantasy points to wide receivers.

Fantasy owners have been burned the past couple of seasons by Wallace’s lackluster statistics so it was no surprise that he went either undrafted or taken as a late round flier. However, he’s owned in just 37% of ESPN fantasy leagues and the big play potential has already been displayed.

If you’re looking for a WR3 or flex option, Wallace has major upside the next three Sundays when taking on weak defensive backfields in Cleveland, Jacksonville and Oakland.

Good luck!
