Chicago Blackhawks forward Daniel Carcillo has been suspended six games by the NHL Department of Player Safety for cross-checking Winnipeg's Mathieu Perreault.

Carcillo had a telephone hearing on Monday after waiving his right to an in-person hearing.

Carcillo is considered a repeat offender under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement and, based on his average annual salary, will forfeit $40,243.92. The money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.

The incident occurred with roughly 10 seconds remaining in the second period of the Jets' 4-2 win on Friday night, when Carcillo cross-checked Perreault from behind. He received a minor penalty for cross-checking on the play.

Perreault did not return to the game. On Sunday the team said that he would likely be out until after the All-Star break.

This is Carcillo's ninth suspension in the NHL. The 29-year-old received an automatic 10-game suspension for physical abuse of an official during the New York Rangers' run to the Stanley Cup final in 2014. He appealed that suspension and managed to get it cut down to six games.

In 31 games with the Blackhawks this season, Carcillo has four goals and three assists as well as 32 penalty minutes.
