Columbus Blue Jackets President of Hockey Operations John Davidson announced Wednesday that winger David Clarkson has failed his phsyical and will not start camp with the team. 

Clarkson has an apparent back injury."Every time he tries to work out, it's bothersome. He's disappointed," Davidson said during a press conference on Blue Jackets Media Day.

The 32-year-old winger played in just 23 games last season due to multiple ailments. He registered 2 goals and 2 assists along with 23 penalty minutes. 

The Blue Jackets team Twitter account said Wednesday the forward's contract is insured.

Clarkson was traded to the Blue Jackets in 2015 from the Toronto Maple Leafs for right winger Nathan Horton.
