The Tampa Bay Lightning have announced that Ryan Callahan will miss the World Cup of Hockey after having successful hip surgery.

The Rochester, New York native is expected to return to the ice for the Lightning in five months, but will not be able to play for Team USA in the September tournament.

Callahan appeared in 73 games during the 2015-16 season for the Lightning scoring 10 goals and adding 18 assists.  He also played in 16 games during the Stanley Cup playoffs.

The 31-year-old had a labral tear repaired.
