One day after clinching a playoff spot, the Vancouver Canucks are making moves for the future.

The team signed forward Derek Dorsett and defenceman Luca Sbisa to contract extensions on Wednesday.

Dorsett, 28, received a four-year deal worth $10.6 million, according to TSN Hockey Insider Bob McKenzie.

“Derek has been an incredibly valuable member of the Canucks roster, both on and off the ice this year,” Canucks general manager Jim Benning said in a statement. “His willingness to chip in both offensively and defensively while standing up for his teammates at all times has been instrumental to our success all season.”

Dorsett joined the Canucks prior to the 2014-15 season as a free agent and has set career-highs in points and assists. In 77 games, Dorsett has seven goals and 25 points.

In 408 games with the Canucks, Rangers and Blue Jackets, he has scored 38 goals and 98 points.

The 25-year-old Sbisa signed a three-year extension. In his first season with the Canucks, Sbisa has 11 points.

“Luca has been a big part of our backend all season, logging big minutes during key stretches and doing anything that is asked of him by our coaching staff,” added Benning. “We are excited to have both Derek and Luca in the fold moving forward to continue our goal of winning today, while also having an eye to the future.”

In 340 career games, Sbisa has 12 goals and 55 assists with the Canucks, Ducks and Flyers.

The Canucks acquired Sbisa from Anaheim on June 27, 2014 along with Nick Bonino and the 24th and 85th selection in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft in exchange for Ryan Kesler and a third round pick in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft.
