The New Jersey Devils avoided a salary arbitration hearing with Adam Larsson by signing the defenceman to a six-year, $25 million contract on Saturday.

The deal carries an average annual value of $4.167 million.

The 22-year-old scored three goals and added 21 assists in 64 games to lead all Devils defencemen in points last season.

Larsson, selected fourth overall in the 2011 NHL Draft, appeared in 65 games as a rookie in the 2011-12 season. He has six career goals and 51 career points in 192 NHL games, all with the Devils.

The salary breakdown is as follows: 2015-16: $2,500,000; 2016-17: $3,000,000; 2017-18: $4,500,000; 2018-19: $4,850,000; 2019-20: $5,050,000; and 2020-21: $5,100,000, according to the Devils.
