Ottawa Senators general manager Pierre Dorion won't rule out a return for Clarke MacArthur this season, but doesn't believe such a comeback would be prudent.

The team previously announced in late January that the 31-year-old winger would be done for the season after incurring his fourth concussion in a 19-month span in the fall of 2015. MacArthur has not appeared in a game since October 14, 2015 when he incurred a concussion in a game against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

"It might not be the smartest thing," Dorion said of a potential MacArthur comeback, but noted that the decision remained in the hands of the team's doctors.

Dorion also gave an update on Marc Methot, noting that nothing has changed when it comes to the defenceman's prognosis.

"We're going to get an update in the next few days and I'm not too optimistic," said Dorion.

Methot, 31, is expected out for weeks after taking a slash to the hand from Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby last Thursday. Methot's finger incurred a gruesome injury. Crosby was not penalized on the play.

The Senators (41-25-8) sit second in the Atlantic Division, three points adrift of the Montreal Canadiens. The team is next in action on Tuesday night when they visit the Philadelphia Flyers.
