Edin scores late for win over McEwen at National
Sweden's Niklas Edin scored a pair in the final end for a 6-4 win over Mike McEwen in round-robin play Thursday at the National.

SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. — Ottawa's Rachel Homan continued her strong play of late on Thursday, remaining undefeated in round-robin play at the National.
Homan, who is coming off a loss to Jennifer Jones at last week's Canada Cup final, routed Allison Flaxey of Caledon, Ont., 10-2 in the afternoon draw while improving to 3-0 at the Grand Slam event. Homan broke the game open in the fifth end by scoring three before adding another three in the sixth.
Edmonton's Val Sweeting (3-0) is also undefeated after a 5-3 win over Sweden's Anna Hasselborg.
In other women's action, Jones of Winnipeg defeated South Korea's EunJung Kim 6-3 and Winnipeg's Kerri Einarson topped Scotland's Eve Muirhead 5-3.
Brad Gushue of St. John's, N.L., and Winnipeg's Reid Carruthers remained undefeated on the men's side at 3-0.
Gushue, who is playing his first tournament of the year after a hip injury, scored a deuce in the seventh end to beat hometown product Brad Jacobs 7-5. Carruthers drew a single in the eighth to edge Sweden's Niklas Edin 6-5.
Tanner Horgan of Sudbury, Ont., beat Saskatoon's Steve Laycock 6-4 in the other late draw.
Calgary's Kevin Koe (2-0) is also undefeated after beating Toronto's John Epping 7-5 in an afternoon matchup. John Morris of Vernon, B.C., edged Scotland's David Murdoch 7-6 while Charley Thomas of Edmonton got past American John Shuster 5-2.
Round-robin play continues through Friday evening and the finals are scheduled for Sunday.
