The Toronto Blue Jays are shutting down first baseman/designated hitter Edwin Enacarnacion for the rest of the week due to soreness in his lower back.

Encarnacion, 32, will stop any baseball activity for four or five days and get a precautionary MRI on the lower right side of his back.

The two-time All-Star appeared in 128 games for the Blue Jays last season, batting .268 with 34 home run, 98 runs batted in and an OPS of .901. He missed 34 games in 2014 with a right quadriceps injury.
