Newcastle United announced on Monday that caretaker manager John Carver will remain in the role for the remainder of the season.

Carver, 50, managed Toronto FC for just over a year in 2008. He has been acting as Magpies boss since Alan Pardew left the club to take the reins of Crystal Palace on January 2.

The Tyneside club currently sit 11th in the BPL table, eight points above the drop zone. The club has lost all three matches played under Carver, dropping two games in the league to Southampton and Chelsea, as well as going out in the third round of the FA Cup to Leicester City.

Newcastle is back in action on Saturday when it visits struggling Hull City, 18th in the table and losers of three in a row.
