James Hinchcliffe was released from hospital in Indianapolis on Tuesday, eight days after suffering life-threatening thigh and pelvic injuries in a practice crash for the Indianapolis 500.

The IndyCar series said in a release that the Toronto-native will continue his recovery at home and is expected to make a full recovery.

Hinchcliffe was hurt on May 18 and underwent extensive surgery after suffering severe blood loss.

Schmidt Peterson Motorsports has named Conor Daly as Hinchcliffe's replace for this weekend's twin races in Detroit.

It's not known when Hinchcliffe might return to racing action.
