The New York Islanders have sent forward Ryan Strome down to the AHL Bridgeport Sound Tigers.

The 22-year-old is off to a slow start with one goal and four assists in 12 games this season.

The move comes as a bit of a surprise after Strome spent all of last season with New York and produced 17 goals and 33 assists in 81 games.

He has not played in the American Hockey League since being called up midway through the 2013-14 season.

In 130 NHL contests with the Islanders, Strome has produced 25 goals and 48 assists.
