Toronto Maple Leaf centre Nazem Kadri said Thursday that he felt terrible after hitting the penalty box official with his stick during Wednesday's loss to the Florida Panthers.

Kadri, frustrated by being called for cross-checking in the final minute of regulation with the two teams tied 1-1, slammed his stick into the the penalty box door and the butt end of his stick caught the official up high. The official was then seen voicing his displeasure at Kadri.

TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger reports that the league's hockey operations department took a close look at the incident, and will likely let Kadri off with a warning.

"I feel terrible about it," Kadri told reporters on Thursday. "It's an emotional game and I kind of got out of control. I didn't even realize I hit him until I saw the replay afterwards. I must've apologized to him a thousand times in the penalty box... There's no excuse for it. It won't happen again."

Kadri added that he has not heard from the league office about discipline.

"It was a total accident," He added. "I didn't mean to hit him at all. That's the last thing I was thinking about. I was just trying to take out my frustrations on a water bottle. I was super apologetic. I feel bad and it's never going to happen again."

Kadri scored his 11th goal of the season earlier in the game against the Panthers. He has 20 points in 14 penalty minutes in 23 games this season.
