Patrick Kane is scheduled to be in attendance when the Chicago Blackhawks open training camp on Thursday, despite the fact he remains under police investigation for an alleged sexual assault at his off-season home outside of Buffalo.

After releasing a training camp roster which included Kane, the Blackhawks subsequently confirmed to TSN that Kane “is expected to attend camp” at the University of Notre Dame.

Kane’s playing status has been in doubt since the allegations surfaced in August. He has not been charged with any crime.

The Blackhawks are expected to address Kane’s situation for the first time when team president John McDonough, general manager Stan Bowman and head coach Joel Quenneville meet with reporters on Thursday. Chicago’s first on-ice practices will take place Friday.

A grand jury investigation is expected to convene soon in Western New York to review the findings in the case. In his only public comments, Hamburg Police Chief Gregory Wickett said last month that the investigation involved something that may have happened at Kane's home outside of Buffalo on Aug. 2. Wickett said police were gathering information and awaiting results of forensic tests.

The NHL is aware of and monitoring the investigation but has not taken any disciplinary action against Kane, an eight-time 20 goal-scorer and one of the league's most recognized players.
