BUFFALO, N.Y. — Kasperi Kapanen had a goal and an assist as the Toronto Maple Leafs downed the Buffalo Sabres 3-1 on Saturday in pre-season play.

Kapanen's goal 58 seconds into the third period while on the power play stood up as the winner for the Maple Leafs (2-2-0), who beat Buffalo 3-0 a night earlier in Toronto.

James van Riemsdyk opened the scoring in the first for Toronto while Nikita Soshnikov sealed the win with an empty netter at 18:50 of the third.

Hudson Fasching scored for the Sabres (1-2-1) late in the second to make it 1-1 after 40 minutes.

Frederik Andersen stopped 17-of-18 shots in two periods of work for Toronto. Kasimir Kaskisuo stopped the seven shots he faced in relief.

Robin Lehner turned away 30-of-32 shots for Buffalo.

The Leafs went 1 for 4 on the power play while the Sabres failed to score on three chances with the man advantage.
