Team Canada defeated Team Sweden 7-6 on Wednesday in their pre-tournament World Junior Championship game.

Canada led by 5-1 entering the third period but surrendered five goals in the final frame. Mitch Marner provided the game-winning goal to break a 6-6 tie. 

Jake Virtanen scored twice for Canada, while Dylan Strome, Mitchell Stephens, Haydn Fleury and Brendan Perlini each also added a goal. Marcus Pettersson scored twice for Sweden. Oskar Lindblom, Jacob Larsson, Axel Holmstrom and Adrian Kempe also added goals for Sweden.

Canada finishes 3-0 in pre-tournament play, with a 7-1 win over Belarus and a narrow 1-0 victory over the Czech Republic.

Swedish defenceman Sebastian Aho was taken to hospital after taking a puck to the neck off of the stick of Brandon Hickey.

Canada will open their tournament on Boxing Day against the United States, while Sweden opens against Switzerland.
