The Toronto Blue Jays' hot corner will have an unfamiliar face patrolling it on Tuesday night in St. Louis.

Catcher Russell Martin gets the call at third base when the team opens up a three-game interleague series with the Cardinals at Busch Stadium. He'll bat fifth.

Martin, 34, will make his first start at third since 2013 when he did so as a member of the Pittsburgh Pirates. This will be only Martin's 10th start as a third baseman in his 12-year career with eight of them coming in 2008 with the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Toronto native also has moved to third base from catcher 11 times, including once last year. He has four career errors at the position.

Martin has made four appearances at second base - none of them starts - as well.

In 15 games this season, Martin is hitting .180 with two home runs and two runs batted in with an OPS of .659.

Darwin Barney, Chris Coghlan and Ryan Goins have also played third for the Jays (5-14) this season.

The Jays' everyday third baseman, Josh Donaldson, is currently on the disabled list with a calf strain.

In other roster news, the team activated reliever J.P. Howell from the DL on Monday and optioned reliever Leonel Campos to the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons in a corresponding move.
