When asked who is the best player in the game today, Washington Capitals head coach Barry Trotz raised some eyebrows when he answered Montreal Canadiens goaltender Carey Price, not his star forward Alex Ovechkin.

Price has backstopped the Canadiens to the top of the Eastern Conference with a league-leading goals-against-average of 1.93, and a save percentage of .935 to go with five shutouts.

Ovechkin leads the league with 37 goals on 285 shots but perhaps his most impressive statistic is a plus/minus rating of plus-11. The superstar has been showing an ability to play sound defensively, something that has been lacking over his career.

Of course, the field can't be narrowed down to two candidates when you have the likes of Sidney Crosby, Jonathan Toews, leading scorer Patrick Kane, Steven Stamkos and Tyler Seguin showing their skills on a nightly basis.

So we ask, who is the best player in the NHL today?
