Lindy Ruff’s time in Dallas is over.

The Stars announced on Sunday that the team will not renew Ruff's contract, which expires at the end of the 2016-17 season, only one year after capturing a Central Division title.

The Stars ended the year with a 34-37-11 record, finishing sixth in the division and 11th in the Western Conference.

Ruff, 57, joined the Stars prior to the 2013-14 season and reached the playoffs in his first season with the team. The Stars missed the playoffs in 2015, but returned to the postseason last year with a 50-23-9 record – the best record of any Western Conference team. Dallas was eliminated in Game 6 of their second-round series against the St. Louis Blues.

Ruff finishes his second career NHL stint with a 165-122-41 record with the Stars.

He spent the first 15 years of his coaching career as head coach of the Buffalo Sabres.  He reached the Stanley Cup Final with the Sabres in his second season with the team and won the Jack Adams Award in 2006.

Ruff sits fourth all-time in games coached and second among active coaches behind Joel Quenneville.
