Antti Niemi now holds some serious bragging rights over his Dallas Stars teammate and fellow Finn Kari Lehtonen.

Cleaning up for Lehtonen on Tuesday night against Carolina, Niemi achieved an ultra-rare feat among goaltenders: earning a win without making a single save.

In fact, among goaltenders who have played at least five minutes in a game, Niemi became the first in at least the last 28 years to record a win without facing a single shot, according to Hockey-Reference.com.

Easy work if you can get it, right?

Dallas built a 5-1 lead through the first two frames on Tuesday night, but Carolina roared back in the third period. The Hurricanes scored four consecutive goals, including two from Justin Faulk alone on the power play. Stars coach Lindy Ruff yanked starter Lehtonen after the game-tying goal with 6:43 to play.

Niemi entered cold off the bench and the ‘Canes didn’t post a shot on goal. Patrick Sharp netted the game-winner with 19 seconds to go, earning Niemi the win since he entered with a tie score.

Niemi’s anomaly has been duplicated three times, but none played more than two minutes and 32 seconds for the win. Craig Billington has two of them. The only goaltender to play more than 2:33 and not face a shot was Curtis McElhinney - also against Carolina, on March 18, 2014. McElhinney was in net for 16:52 but lost.

One other record was set Tuesday night: Carolina’s Justin Faulk set the franchise record (including Hartford) for power play goals by a defenceman with his 10th strike of the year. He’s only played 28 games this season. He leads the league in power play goals at 11, two more than Patrick Kane. For that, TSN named Faulk the NHL’s best-kept secret last month at the quarter mark of the season.
