The Edmonton Oilers updated injured defenceman Darnell Nurse's status Monday, with GM Peter Chiarelli announcing Nurse underwent surgery to repair ankle ligament and bone damage and will miss up to 12 weeks.

Nurse was injured earlier this month in a game against the Winnipeg Jets.

The 21-year-old was blossoming for the Oilers this season, his second in the NHL. Through 25 games this season, the seventh-overall pick in the 2013 Draft had three goals and five points.
