The Florida Panthers stayed busy on Saturday. After trading Jiri Hudler from the Calgary Flames, the team made a pair of other deals, acquiring forward Teddy Purcell from the Edmonton Oilers for a third-round draft pick and defenceman Jakub Kindl from the Detroit Red Wings for a seventh-round pick in 2017.

An undrafted free agent,  Purcell broke into the NHL with the team in 2007, Purcell has scored 98 goals and 196 assists for 294 points in 544 regular-season games with the Los Angeles Kings, Lightning and Oilers.

The St. John's, Newfoundland native has also scored seven goals and 18 points in 22 playoff appearances, including a trip to the Eastern Conference finals with the Lightning in 2011.

Kindl, 29, has split his season between the Wings and Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League. A native of Sumperk, Czech Republic, Kindl two goals and four assists for the Wings in 25 games this season.

Kindl has played 273 NHL games, all with the Red Wings, tallying 16 goals and 56 assists. He was originally taken with the 19th-overall pick in the 2005 draft.
