TSN Hockey Insider Bob McKenzie reports the team is nearing a six-year extension for Jonathan Huberdeau worth just under $6 million a season. The 23-year-old native of Saint-Jerome, Quebec is in the final year of a two-year bridge deal with the team.

Originally taken with the third-overall pick in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft out of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League's Saint John Sea Dogs, Huberdeau is headed into his fifth season with the Panthers. He scored 20 goals and added 39 assists a season ago, good for career highs in goals and points for the Atlantic Division-topping Panthers. He added a goal and two assists in the team's first-round Eastern Conference playoff series with the New York Islanders.

In 272 career games, Huberdeau has 58 goals and 114 assists.
