TORONTO — Anthony "Showtime" Pettis missed weight Friday ahead of UFC 206, a move that will cost him money and opportunity.

While the main event fight with Max "Blessed" Holloway will go on Saturday night at the Air Canada Centre, Pettis has lost his chance at the UFC interim featherweight title if he wins. And whatever happens he has to forfeit 20 per cent of his purse to Holloway.

Holloway, ranked No. 2 among featherweight contenders, will collect the interim title with a win at the Air Canada Centre — and a shot at 145-pound title-holder Jose Aldo in 2017 to decide the undisputed champion.

Holloway (16-3-0) has won his last nine fights since dropping a decision to Conor McGregor in August 2013.

McGregor held both the featherweight and lightweight titles but relinquished the 145-pound championship belt, which went to former champion Aldo and set the stage for the interim title fight in Toronto.

Pettis a former lightweight champion ranked No. 5 among featherweights, weighed in at 148 pounds Friday morning, three above the featherweight limit for a title fight. Holloway was 145 pounds.

It's the second featherweight outing for Pettis (19-5-0), who used to campaign at 155 pounds. He weighed in at 146 pounds — an extra pound is allowed in non-title fights — when he submitted Charles Oliveira in his debut in the division.

It's also the latest twist in an MMA card that has had its problems. The main event was originally to feature light-heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier against No. 1 contender Anthony (Rumble) Johnson. But Holloway-Pettis was moved up the marquee after Cormier was hurt in training.

The Ontario Athletic Commission denied former light-heavyweight champion Rashad Evans a license to fight on the card, as its New York counterpart did for UFC 205.

Middleweight Tim Kennedy, Evans' opponent both times, will now face Kelvin Gastelum, who dropped off the UFC 205 card after missing weight for his welterweight fight.

Saturday's card is the first UFC show in Toronto since UFC 165 in September 2013.

The UFC says it expects a sellout.
