The New York Rangers have placed forward Matthew Lombardi on unconditional waivers for purposes to terminate his contract.

Lombardi signed a two-year, $1.6 million deal with the Rangers this summer but did not make the team out of training camp.

He refused an AHL assignment and the expectation is he will go back to play in Switzerland, where he spent last year.

Lombardi has played in 536 career NHL games split between five teams, registering 101 goals and 262 points
