The Toronto Blue Jays are the front-runners to land the services of San Diego Padres outfielder Melvin Upton Jr. according to a report by Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports.

The report also states that the Baltimore Orioles and Cleveland Indians remain in talks to acquire the 31-year-old.

Upton has appeared in 92 games during the 2016 season for the Padres and has 16 homers and 45 RBIs with a .256 average and .304 on base percentage.

The 2002 first round draft pick of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays is in his second season with the Padres after spending two years with the Atlanta Braves.

Upton made his debut with the Rays in 2004 and played with his original franchise through the 2012 season.

According to Rosenthal, Upton Jr. is owed what remains  of $15.45 million this season and another $16.45 million next season.
