Starter C.C. Sabathia met with the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday according to George A. King III of the New York Post.

While Blue Jays general manager Ross Atkins said that the Jays are looking for help in the starting rotation, there is no indication a deal is close with Sabathia. Both Atkins and team president Mark Shapiro did not confirm or deny a meeting with Sabathia, but Atkins had some high praise Wednesday when asked about what he would bring to the table for the Jays.

“Leadership and big-game ability. Big-game pitching. He’s not going to back down from any challenge. Strike thrower. (He’s pitched on) the biggest stages. He’s proven that he’s still more than effective," Atkins said.

Manager John Gibbons offered praise, calling Sabathia "one of the great competitors in the game for a number of years."

King reports that the 37-year-old left-hander met with the Los Angeles Angels earlier this week.

The New York Yankees are also looking into bringing Sabathia back after he’s spent the last nine seasons with the club.

"I know we're going to have conversations with him. Whether it becomes a fit or not, we'll see in the coming days,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone told Pete Caldera of the Bergen Record.

Sabathia has re-invented himself over the past two seasons after a dip in velocity. In 148.2 innings last year, he pitched to an ERA of 3.69 – the lowest it’s been since 2012. He also starred in the playoffs, allowing just one earned run in 9.1 innings.

Toronto's starters had an ERA of 4.57 in 2017, good for seventh in the American League.
