The Toronto Maple Leafs and Montreal Canadiens are among a number of teams interested in the potential availability of Columbus Blue Jackets forward Kerby Rychel, reports Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch.

Rychel, the 19th-overall pick in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft out of Windsor of the Ontario Hockey League, has reportedly been unhappy with his perceived lack of opportunity with the Blue Jackets and repeatedly asked for a trade before the season began. The team did not entertain his request then, but that hasn't stopped other clubs from expressing interest in the 21-year-old native of Tecumseh, Ontario.

His father, Warren, played in 406 career NHL games, including a spell with Leafs in 1994-95.

Along with the Leafs, Habs and Flames, the Boston Bruins, New York Rangers, Anaheim Ducks and Detroit Red Wings have also reportedly shown interest.

Rychel has appeared in 11 games for the Blue Jackets this season, tallying three assists.

Currently with the team's American Hockey League-affiliate Lake Erie Monsters, Rychel's offensive prowess has been on display in the AHL. In 20 games with the Monsters, Rychel has five goals and 13 assists. He has recorded 43 minutes in penalties.

The team has not commented on the report.
