Ichiro Suzuki is headed to the National League.

First reported by Craig Mish of the MLB Network, the 10-time All-Star has agreed to a one-year, $2 million deal with the Miami Marlins.

Ichiro, 41, heads into the season just 156 hits shy of the 3,000-hit mark. In 2014 with the New York Yankees, Ichiro had 102 hits, the lowest total of his 14-year MLB career, in only 359 plate appearances, the fewest of his career. He finished the year hitting .284 with one home run, 22 RBI and an OBP of .324.

It's expected that Ichiro will start the season as the Marlins' fourth outfielder behind Giancarlo Stanton, Marcell Ozuna and Christian Yelich.

Ichiro spent the first 12 seasons of his career with the Seattle Mariners before being sent to the Yankees before the 2012 trade deadline. He was named American League Rookie of the Year and MVP in 2001. In 2004, Ichiro set the single season record for most hits with 262.

If Ichiro reaches the 3,000-hit mark, he'll become only the 29th player in MLB history to accomplish the feat and first since former teammate Derek Jeter hit the mark in 2011. Of the 28 who have reached the mark, 25 are in the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Including his statistics in the JBL prior to coming to North America, Ichiro currently has a combined total of 5,022 hits.
