The Boston Red Sox may be on the hunt to sign not one, but two, huge free agents.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reported Sunday that in addition to being hot on the heels of San Francisco Giants third baseman Pablo Sandoval, the club is "believed to be possibly moving toward an agreement with" Hanley Ramirez.

A Boston Globe report Saturday stated the Red Sox had made a five-year, $95 million offer to Sandoval.

The 30-year-old Ramirez is coming off a six-year, $90 million contract he signed with the then-Florida Marlins following the 2008 season. He declined the Los Angeles Dodgers' one-year qualifying offer worth $15.3 million on Nov. 10.

Both players would provide a huge offensive boost to the Red Sox offence. The team finished last in the American League East in 2014. The team scored 634 runs last season, tying them with the Seattle Mariners for fourth-worst in the American League.

A three-time All-Star and the 2006 National League Rookie of the Year, Ramirez hit .283 last season, adding 13 home runs and driving in 71. While his average and home run numbers dipped from 2013 (20 and .345, respectively) his RBI total was actually up by 14. Ramirez possesses a .300 career average with an .873 OPS over his 10-year playing career.

He has missed significant time to injury over the past two seasons with a variety of ailments. His top season came in 2009 when he finished second in NL MVP voting on the strength of a .342/.410/.543 slash line, driving in 106 runs. 

Sandoval, 28, is coming off his third World Series victory in the last five seasons with the Giants. He hit .279 with 16 homers and 73 RBI over 157 regular season games with the Giants in 2014. He also possessed the fifth-best range factor of any NL third baseman per nine innings.

He saved his bets play for the World Series, however, hitting .429 in the Giants' seven-game triumph over the Kansas City Royals. It marked Sandoval's second stellar Series, having won the Fall Classic MVP Award in 2012. He possesses a .426 career average in the World Series.

Over seven seasons with the Giants, Sandoval has hit 106 home runs and 462 RBI. He possesses a career slash line of .294/.346/.465 earning two All-Star Game selections.
