The Buffalo Sabres have reportedly found a new target in their search for a head coach.

According to ESPN's Craig Custance, the Sabres received permission to interview Dan Bylsma on Thursday.

Bylsma spent five and a half seasons as head coach of the Pittsburgh Penguins prior to being let go after the 2013-14 season. He posted a 252-117-36 record with the Penguins and won the Stanley Cup in his first season with the team.

According to media reports, the Sabres believed they had a deal in place to hire Mike Babcock as head coach, but were spurned when Babcock agreed to terms with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The San Jose Sharks received permission to interview Bylsma earlier this week, according to a separate ESPN report.
