The US women’s hockey team will be joined in their boycott by American NHL players should USA Hockey use replacement players at this week’s women’s world championships, USA Today reports.

USA Hockey began the process of contacting potential replacements last week as the national team continued their boycott.

The women’s players are asking for a four-year contract which includes payment outside of the six-month Olympic period they are currently paid for.

USA Hockey has scheduled an emergency board meeting for Monday to discuss negotiations.

The women’s world championships are set to start on Friday in Plymouth, Michigan. Training camp was scheduled to begin on March 21.

The men’s world championships will take place in May. The Americans placed fourth in the tournament last year.

The NHLPA has already released a statement backing the efforts of the women’s team.
