Colorado Avalanche

Defenseman Erik Johnson rested his bruised body Friday, the only Avs player who didn't skate. Detroit Red Wings

Wings forward Tomas Jurco has "a back issue, a little bit of a disc issue. He'll be shut down for a bit. Hopefully it won't be long."

Defenseman Jakub Kindl (sprained elbow) practiced with the team today but seemed a bit dejected about the progress he's making. "I'm working on it, it's getting better," Kindl said. "It's getting better, for sure." Kindl said he can skate and shoot but the elbow is still sore. He said he's trying to avoid doing anything that would cause him to have a setback.

Los Angeles Kings

Indications are that center Mike Richards could be a healthy scratch Saturday for the first time in his Kings career.

It has been trending in that direction. Kings Coach Darryl Sutter reduced his ice time and Richards played a season-low 9 minutes 7 seconds in the Kings’ 4-3 loss to the New York Rangers on Thursday night.

The next significant sign came in Friday’s morning practice when rookie Andy Andreoff took Richards' spot on the fourth line. Richards and Jordan Nolan were the extra forwards and look to be the healthy scratches on Saturday night against Winnipeg at Staples Center. – LA Times

Minnesota Wild

Two days after the death of his father, J.P., Wild winger Zach Parise was back with his teammates for a Friday practice at Xcel Energy Center. Afterward, he said plans to play in Saturday's game against Nashville and will accompany the Wild on a three-game road trip that begins Sunday.

Coach Mike Yeo said goalie Darcy Kuemper won't play in at least the next three games. Kuemper is sidelined by a lower-body injury, and neither he nor defenseman Marco Scandella (upper body) has been cleared to practice. Kuemper will definitely sit out against Nashville on Saturday, Chicago on Sunday and Pittsburgh on Tuesday. Scandella is day-to-day, so he could be back sooner. – Star Tribune

Nashville Predators

Predators defenseman Ryan Ellis did not practice Friday and will not be available to play Saturday at Minnesota. The team said he continues to be evaluated following a lower body injury that caused him to leave Thursday's game against Dallas in the second period. The extent of his injury may not be known for another day or two, the team said.

James Neal (injured reserve, lower body) returned to practice Friday and participated as an extra skater. He has missed the last four games and his status remains day-to-day. – Tennessean

Pittsburgh Penguins

Center Marcel Goc and defenseman Kris Letang returned to practice Friday. Goc missed Wednesday's game against Boston because of an illness, and while he said Friday his legs felt “a little heavy,” he said he would be available for Saturday's game in Montreal. Letang also said he would be ready to play. – Tribune Review
