Loui on the Market?

The Boston Bruins want to re-sign pending unrestricted free-agent Loui Eriksson as soon as possible, but also know they might have to consider other options if a deal is not reached.

General manager Don Sweeney appeared on NESN's pre-game show prior to the Bruins' clash with the Vancouver Canucks Thursday night and spoke about the Eriksson contract situation.

Eriksson, 30, has scored 15 times and added 23 assists over 46 games this season, his third in Boston. The Swede is on pace for his best season with the Bruins after putting up solid numbers over his first seven years in the NHL with the Dallas Stars.

Eriksson is making $4.25 million this season, the final year of a six-year, $25.5 million deal.

The Bruins currently hold the first Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference.

Change of Pace?

Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal says the Oilers might consider trading the first overall pick if they happen to win the Draft Lottery again this year.

Matheson, who's says he's "spitballing" in this column, thinks defenceman Oliver Ekman-Larsson of the Arizona Coyotes might be a could fit in Edmonton.

Auston Matthews is a native of Scottsdale, Arizona and will likely go first overall at the 2016 NHL Entry Draft.

The Oilers might trade their first-round pick if it’s anywhere in the top three, according to Matheson as the team is in dire need of a top of the line defenceman rather than another forward.
