Jets Not Done Yet?

With the Evander Kane trade complete, The Winnipeg Sun's Ted Wyman wrote Thursday that Jets general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff still has plenty of blueliners, which he could use to acquire help up front. Wyman explains that Jay Harrison, Adam Pardy and Paul Postma are the extra defencemen in the lineup and all three can't stay if the team plans to bring in another forward.

Wyman could still see the Jets moving a Top 6 defenceman to bring in a Top 6 forward, and wonders aloud if Tyler Myers could be a trade bait candidate to get such a deal done.

What Could The Stars Do?

In his chat feature for the Dallas Morning News, Mike Heika wrote Wednesday afternoon that he doesn't see the Stars adding a rental player. Answering a question about the availability of Dion Phaneuf, Heika said the Maple Leafs defenceman is a good player, but only if the price is right added later that he doesn't think the team will do anything with their blueliners at the trade deadline.

Heika also said if the Stars are sellers, forwards Erik Cole and Shawn Horcoff could be candidates to go.

Move For Milan?

As Don Brennan wrote in Thursday's Ottawa Sun, Senators forward Milan Michalek could be on the trade block if he doesn't improve his offensive game. Brennan adds that Michalek's decline could make him a tough sell in the trade market, but he could still has enough left to help a contending team.

Brennan adds that any chance of defenceman Chris Phillips being traded before Mar. 2 is pretty much gone as the Senators say he'll be sidelined, "week-to-week" with "wear and tear."

Bruins' Strategy

Joe Haggerty of CSNNE.com said Thursday that Boston scouts have been tracking Chris Stewart, Michael Ryder and Zack Kassian among others in their search for a right winger and referenced TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun's report that the Bruins are also interested in Cam Atkinson.

Haggerty notes that blueliners Cody Franson and Andrej Sekera available as rentals, but adds the team won't give up a first-round pick and prospect when the team, "looks more like a divisional round victim than a Cup contender."

Caps Need Right Side Help Too

Chuck Gormley of csnwashington.com writes that the Capitals have about $2 million in cap space and would need to shed some salary to add help for the postseason. He also identifies Stewart and Ryder as possible right wing targets, as well as Ottawa's Chris Neil and former Capital Jaromir Jagr.
