Another defenceman available?

Aaron Portzline of The Columbus Dispatch tweeted on Monday night that the Blue Jackets are looking to deal defenceman James Wisniewski

"Heard from two different sources tonight that #CBJ are shopping D James Wisniewski around the #NHL, trying to move before Monday's deadline," he wrote.

According to head coach Todd Richards, Wisniewski will be back in the lineup tonight after being a healthy scratch on Sunday.

Playing The Percentages In Toronto

TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger reported on SportsCentre Monday night that there's a 60 per cent chance that Toronto Maple Leafs winger Joffrey Lupul is dealt leading up to the trade deadline and into this offseason.

Dreger adds that with his play of late coming off injury, there is interest in Lupul. Dreger also has Daniel Winnik's chances of being dealt by Mar. 2 as 100 per cent, with the Leafs seeking a second-round pick and potentially a third-rounder or a prospect. The Winnipeg Jets are reportedly interested and Alex Burmistrov's name has been mentioned. The Leafs would be interested in his services, but a second-round pick would have to be part of the deal as well.

Filling The Void?

With centre David Krejci out four to six weeks, ESPN Boston's Joe McDonald speculates that putting Krejci on LTIR until the end of the season should provide the Bruins with the cap relief needed to find a replacement down the middle.

McDonald thinks Arizona's Antoine Vermette is a trade possibility and if Ryan Spooner fits in at centre, perhaps targeting Winnipeg winger Michael Frolik is an option as well.

Where The Penguins Sit

TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun wrote on ESPN.com on Monday that the Pittsburgh Penguins will be buyers at the deadline, but have limited cap space. He adds that general manager Jim Rutherford has already acquired David Perron and Max Lapierre, but is looking for another forward for his bottom six.

LeBrun also writes that the team tried to trade for defenceman Cody Franson and were interested in Marc Methot before he re-signed with Ottawa. He adds that Pittsburgh doesn't appear too interested in the rental market going into Mar. 2, but depth players like Daniel Winnik, Scott Hannan or Jan Hejda may fit the bill.

What To Do In Washington

Chuck Gormley of CSN Washington writes that the Capitals have "narrowed their focus on a No. 6 defenceman" to play alongside Mike Green and that Edmonton's Jeff Petry could be a rental and possible summer signing.

Gormley speculates that with two third-round picks, the Capitals could give up their second-round pick for Petry or another depth defenceman on the market with NHL experience.
