Leicester City’s 2014-15 Premier League survival meant that the 1997-98 season remains the only campaign where all three promoted teams were immediately relegated to the Championship. Unfortunately, Queen’s Park Rangers and Burnley were not able to achieve the same feat as they, along with Hull City, suffered the drop at the end of the season.

Three new teams have joined the ranks of the English soccer elite and they will collectively hope to turn the clock back to 2001-02, the last time all three promoted teams survived to a second season in the Premier League.

Meet the Teams:

AFC Bournemouth

Ground:  Vitality Stadium

Nickname: The Cherries

Promoted as the Championship title winners, Bournemouth will be making their debut in the Barclays Premier League this season.

Manager Eddie Howe’s side scored a league leading 98 goals last season while conceding only 45, the second lowest total in the Championship.

Offensively they will be led into the season by new signing Max Gradel, who joins the promoted side from Ligue 1’s St. Etienne, where he fired home 17 goals in 37 games last season.

Callum Wilson signed a new deal this summer, after leading the team with 20 goals last season and the Cherries will need to see that kind of return to have a chance to survive relegation.

Veteran defender Sylvain Distin joined the side on a free transfer following the completion of his contract with Everton having also spent time at Manchester City, Portsmouth and Newcastle.

The 37-year-old will be counted on to bring stability to a backline that will also feature £8m man Tyrone Mings.

Watford

Ground: Vicarage Road

Nickname: The Hornets

Craig Cathcart

Promoted as the second place team in the Championship, Watford is making their return to the Premier League after being relegated following the 2006-07 season, where they won only five games and finished bottom with 28 points.

If you weren’t able to catch any of Watford’s promotion campaign, don’t worry because most of the players that will take the field for their Premier League opener will have had nothing to do with that achievement.

Quique Flores will be in charge of the team, Watford’s fifth manager in a year, after his predecessor Slavisa Jokanovic was not able to work out a deal to remain on the bench.

Other changes from last season’s Championship runner-up squad include left-back Jose Holebas, centre-backs Sebastian Prodl and Miguel Britos, right-back Allan Nyom, defensive midfielders Valon Behrami and Etienne Capoue and attacking midfielder Jose Jurado.

The two holdovers that will play a large part in the success or failure of Watford are captain Troy Deeney and keeper Heurelho Gomes formally of Tottenham.

The first three games on their schedule are all tough so they will have to hit the ground running or they will settle in very quickly at the bottom of the table.

Norwich City

Ground: Carrow Road

Nickname: The Canaries

Norwich City celebrates

Norwich was promoted to the Premier League by defeating Middlesbrough in the playoff final, returning to the top flight after spending just one season in the Championship.

Unlike their fellow promoted side Watford, Norwich City added players to their existing squad rather than trying to remake their entire roster.

Robbie Brady was added for a £7m fee and will be counted on to pace the offence along with last season’s hero Nathan Redmond, who potted six goals, including the playoff semifinal and final, to help secure promotion.

Bradley Johnson was an important part of the attack last year and will need to rise to the occasion in the Premier League.

Cameron Jerome has previously struggled as a Premier League player and Ricky van Wolfswinkel will need to fulfill the promise he showed at Sporting Lisbon that ultimately led to his move to Carrow Road.

The three promoted sides are the betting favourites to head back down to the Championship with Watford tipped to be the last place team followed by Norwich and Bournemouth.

History says at least one will survive.
