Hockey Canada announced the first group of players named to Canada's entry for the upcoming IIHF World Championship.

Twelve forwards, five defencemen, and two goalies were named to the roster Tuesday, headlined by Edmonton Oilers Jordan Eberle and Taylor Hall, Philadelphia Flyers centre Claude Giroux, and Dallas Stars centre Tyler Seguin.

Also accepting invites were Olympic Gold medallists Matt Duchene and Mike Smith.

Seventeen of the 19 players named to the roster Tuesday have international experience with Canada. Only Jake Muzzin and David Savard are representing Canada for the first time.

“We could not be more pleased with this first group of players who have committed to representing their country,” said general manager Jim Nill in a release. “This group includes a fantastic mix of youth and experience, and these 19 players are ready to get over to Europe and wear the red and white of Team Canada.”
