OTTAWA - Canada's men's soccer team will renew its rivalry with the United States when they meet in a friendly Feb. 5 in Carson, Calif.

The Canadians will be in camp from Jan. 25 to Feb. 6 in preparation for the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying games in March.

"Every camp and international match is another opportunity to bring our players together and practice our systems and improve our levels," said Canada's head coach Benito Floro. "USA is a strong opponent, so the match will provide good experience for our team."

Canada faces Mexico in their next qualifying match on March 25 at Vancouver's BC Place Stadium.

Both Canada and the U.S. are among the 12 remaining CONCACAF teams in qualifying contention for the World Cup in Russia.

Canada is in Group A alongside El Salvador, Honduras, and Mexico; the Americans are in Group C alongside Guatemala, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and Trinidad and Tobago. Only two countries from each of three groups advance to "The Hex" — the hexagonal CONCACAF Final Round.

The friendly will mark the 33rd international meeting between the two countries and the 15th men's friendly. The teams have drawn 0-0 in the most recent encounters, on Jan. 29, 2013 and June 3, 2012.
