The Washington Capitals have acquired D Tim Gleason from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for defenceman Jack Hillen and a fourth round draft pick in 2015.

“We are pleased to welcome Tim to our organization,” Capitals senior vice president and general manager Brian MacLellan said in a team statement. “Tim is a veteran, physical defenseman and we feel his experience, toughness and skill set further strengthens our blueline.”

The 32-year-old Gleason has a goal and six assists for the Hurricanes this season. In 710 career games, spent mostly with the Hurricanes but also with the Los Angeles Kings and Toronto Maple Leafs, Gleason has 17 goals and 123 assists.

Hillen, 29, has five assists in 35 games for the Capitals this season.
