ORLANDO, Fla. - Canada tied Iceland 1-1 Monday after a 65th-minute penalty kick cancelled out a first-half Dwayne De Rosario spot kick.

Iceland, ranked 33rd in the world compared to No. 12 for Canada, won 2-1 when the two teams met Friday.

"Last Friday, we played well but the score was unfair. Today, we played with intensity, pressing everywhere on the pitch, but the opponent played, at the same time, as well as us," said Canadian head coach Benito Floro. "I consider the final result equal. We think that the two games are divided in four halves. Two halves Iceland won, two halves Canada won."

The Canadian men went ahead Monday on De Rosario's 30th-minute penalty after Montreal Impact defender Karl W. Ouimette was taken down in the box after a run down the left.

De Rosario, who also scored Friday, converted the penalty to increase his record national goals total to 22 goals.

"I consider De Ro to be an excellent player," said Floro. "Excellent means he fights a lot, he has very nice skills, he has a very good tactical knowledge, he can play the wing, he can play as a forward, he can play as a midfielder. He is one of our best players."

The 36-year-old former MLS MVP is currently unattached after Toronto FC declined to pick up his option after the 2014 season.

Monday was De Rosario's 81st international appearance, just three off Paul Stalteri's national record.
