Philadelphia Flyers forward Dale Weise has been suspended for three games for an illegal hit to the head of Korbinian Holzer of the Anaheim Ducks.

Weise, 28, left his feet to deliver a shoulder to the head of Holzer during the second period of Thursday's 3-2 loss to the Ducks. He was not penalized on the play, but Ducks captain Ryan Getzlaf received a two-minute minor for tripping in retaliation for the hit.

A native of Winnipeg, Weise is in the first year of a four-year, $9.4 million deal with the Flyers.

This is Weise's second suspension, but first in the regular season. He was suspended for three preseason games in 2013 while a member of the Vancouver Canucks for an illegal check to the head of then Edmonton Oilers forward Taylor Hall.

Weise is eligible to return on October 27 when the team hosts the Arizona Coyotes.
