Former NHL player Marek Svatos has passed away at the age of 34.

The sudden passing of the Slovakia native was announced in a tweet from the International Ice Hockey Federation on Sunday morning.

Svatos scored 100 goals and 72 assists for 172 points in 344 NHL regular-season contests with the Colorado Avalanche, Nashville Predators and Ottawa Senators. He spent six of his seven NHL seasons with the Avalanche, scoring a career-high 32 goals and 60 points during the 2005-2006 campaign.

“The entire Avalanche organization is extremely saddened by this news," Avs executive vice president and general manager Joe Sakic said in a statement. "Marek was a tremendous person, a talented hockey player and a great teammate.  Our thoughts, prayers and our deepest sympathy to his wife, children and his entire family.”
