In his new autobiography, LA Galaxy midfielder and former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard places the blame for his infamous slip-up against Chelsea that ended the Reds' English Premier League title hopes in 2014 on manager Brendan Rodgers.

Liverpool held a five-point lead on Manchester City with three matches remaining in the 2013-2014 season when Chelsea visited Anfield on on April 27.

Late in the first half, Gerrard slipped, allowing Blues striker Demba Ba to go in alone on Liverpool 'keeper Simon Mignolet and give Chelsea a 1-0 lead. Jose Mourinho's side would win the match 2-0. Liverpool would go on to draw Crystal Palace 3-3 in the season's penultimate match and finish as runners-up to City for the title.

"I’ve never been able to say this in public before, but I was seriously concerned that we thought we could blow Chelsea away," Gerrard writes in Steven Gerrard: My Story. "I sensed an over-confidence in Brendan’s team talks. We played into Chelsea’s hands. I feared it then and I know it now."

Gerrard,  who made 504 appearances for the Reds and was capped 114 times by England, joined the Galaxy in July.
