Steve Briere is the new goaltending coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The team announced on Monday that the head instructor and proprietor of the Canadian Professional Goalie School would be joining the team to replace Rick St. Croix, who was let go in April.

Along with his school, the 38-year-old native of Winnipeg has coached with the Fargo Force and Des Moines Buccaneers of the United States Hockey League and the North American Hockey League's Topeka Roadrunners. Briere had an eight-year professional career that included stints in the Central Hockey League, East Coast Hockey League and the British National League.

The Leafs also named Ari Vuori director of European scouting. After 13 seasons as a player in the Finnish Elite League, Vuori scouted with the Los Angeles Kings for 11 seasons before spending the last eight with the Detroit Red Wings in a similar capacity.
